2021 Commencement Planning

Update From President Struppa, February 16, 2021

With the strong likelihood that the state will still have a limit on large gatherings through spring and into summer, we recently surveyed 2020 and 2021 graduates and their families to gauge their preference for how we manage the commencement ceremony this year. The overwhelming majority indicated that an in-person celebration is preferred over a virtual or drive-thru event, even if that means we need to delay the ceremony.

In order to provide an in-person ceremony that meets graduates’ expectations within Orange County’s current COVID-19 restrictions, and also allows our graduates and their family and friends time to make travel arrangements, we are actively planning to stage commencement ceremonies for all of our schools and colleges this summer over the course of two weekends: July 30-August 1 and August 6-8. We will share more details as they become available; in the meantime, we will continue to work with the Orange County Health Care Agency to ensure that we have a ceremony befitting Chapman, that also complies with the state and local health and safety requirements. If you have any questions feel free to contact the Commencement office at commencement@chapman.edu or visit the Commencement website.

This is an important milestone in the life of our students and we remain committed to making it the best we can for them.
