Return-to-Campus-Process for Students – Rinker Campus
While Chapman cannot guarantee that it can keep anyone safe from the COVID-19 virus or any other harm, compliance with the following measures will help us reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection and respond more effectively if cases do occur. Therefore, please understand that those who will be on the Rinker campus this trimester to take essential labs will need to accept the responsibility to comply with the following measures as a condition of returning to campus:
COVID-19 Safety Training
Complete COVID-19 training modules. You can access the COVID-19 Safety Training at canvas.chapman.edu. The training should appear in your Dashboard, or you can go to canvas.chapman.edu and navigate to Courses > All Courses and look for COVID-19 Safety Training. If you have already completed your training, you do not have to repeat this step.
Weekly COVID-19 Testing
You must complete a weekly COVID-19 test to comply with state and local guidelines. Do not take this test if not returning to campus.
- The Student Health Center will accept the following tests:
- On-campus rapid test (recommended). Both Orange and Rinker campuses have testing centers available.
- Outside test administered by your doctor. Test results can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org for approval.
- At-home test through Pixel by Labcorp, which can be requested on wellconnectplus.com
- NOTE: While outside tests and at-home tests will be accepted, completing the rapid test at the on-campus testing center is highly recommended.
Completion of the COVID-19 test is required on a weekly basis in order to maintain access to campus.
Daily Health Screening
Students who access campus must complete a simple daily COVID-19 health screening. This screening will include a requirement to take your temperature and attest that it is below 100.4. This health assessment can be done via a short questionnaire on a smartphone or other device. You will be prompted by email to complete the short questionnaire each day.
- You will need to have completed a COVID-19 test within the current or previous week in order to receive the required Daily Health Screening email.
- If you do not need to access campus for a period of time and do not complete a COVID-19 test, you will stop receiving the email notifications. In order to reactivate the Daily Health Screening email notifications and reactivate access to campus, you will need to take a COVID-19 test.
To complete the Daily Health Screening, follow these steps:
- Look for the health screening in your Chapman email and follow the instructions.
- Do not come to campus until a CLEAR status is received.
- Contact your health provider in the event of DENIAL status and continue to avoid campus.
Students are required to have health insurance.
- Before coming to campus or moving into Chapman housing, please either submit proof of insurance before August 31 or you will be enrolled and billed for Chapman health insurance.
When students are either on or near campus, please follow the processes below:
- Wearing a face mask or shield whenever on the Rinker campus.
- Maintaining recommended social distancing.
- Avoid large gatherings, only hosting or attending gatherings where the number of attendees is within the limits determined by state and county guidance and follows appropriate health and safety measures including face coverings and social distancing.
- Frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing.
Responding to Positive Tests
- Self‐isolation if experiencing symptoms or testing positive for COVID‐19.
- Full cooperation with contact tracking and tracing.
- Transitioning to remote learning options for portions of courses or the trimester, or shifting to remote learning, if needed.
By returning to campus, students acknowledge that they understand that complying with the above measures is part of the responsibility to protect themselves and, by extension, others in the community, during the pandemic. Failure to comply with these measures may constitute a violation of the university’s Student Conduct Code and result in disciplinary action.
Their presence at Chapman is an acknowledgement that, despite the health and safety measures that Chapman is implementing to help protect students, faculty, staff and campus visitors from COVID-19, an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any environment where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. Students must acknowledge that entering the Rinker campus may expose them to a variety of hazards and risks related to COVID-19 foreseen and unforeseen, and they may subsequently expose those within their household or those with whom they interact. When coming to the Chapman campuses, they do so fully understanding these hazards and risks.
