Status of Faculty-Led International Travel Programs

This post was updated on

As of Oct. 6, 2021, January and Spring Break programs to international locations, and Spring Study Abroad are cancelled. This decision is informed by the CDC’s Level 3 (high risk) and Level 4 (very high risk) travel advisory of the chosen destinations:

  • 139 countries at Level 4: COVID-19 Very High
  • 39 countries at Level 3: COVID-19 High
  • 13 countries at Level 2: COVID-19 Moderate
  • 6 countries at Level 1: COVID-19 Low

In addition, Chapman University participated in a national assessment of international travels for January and Spring Break programs and our decision is aligned with that of most institutions that were surveyed.

Currently, we plan on offering May/June Faculty-led travel courses as well as January and Spring domestic programs with the understanding that this could change over the coming weeks as the pandemic continues to evolve.

While this type of high-impact travel experience is invaluable, we need to put the health and safety of our faculty and students first as we make decisions such as this.

These protocols are subject to change per guidance from the CDC or state and local health officials.
